Firework Night

Hey! I’m so excited because this is my favourite time of year and I have so many blog post ideas! Bonfire night has already been and gone and next it’s Christmas…AHHHH!

The 5th of November (Guy Fawkes Night) is the date I know Autumn is here and Christmas is on it’s way! This year, I worked all day and then went to a family friends in the evening with my Mum and her partner. There was 13 of us all together and I adore this bunch of people. We had all brought fireworks, food, drink and sparklers and had the most lovely night.

Sorry for the awful photo, but we let off lots of fireworks in their back garden and we all huddled around their firepit. I don’t care how old I am, I love sparklers, fireworks and toasting marshmallows on the fire. Pure bliss 😀

I also spent time with the younger ones playing games and watching films. I love them all and we always have such a laugh. What a lovely Firework Night! Spend time with people who bring out the best in you ❤

Carving My Pumpkin

Hey! Cheesy Halloween joke coming up! You’ve been warned 😉

Q. Why did the ghost go into the bar?  – A. For the Boos

For this Halloween evening I thought I would post about my pumpkin! I carved it a few days ago and didn’t want to go for anything too complicated! I’ve seen some amazing designs, but I am not that creative!

My pumpkin was £1 from ASDA and all I used was a knife, a spoon and a pen to complete my pumpkin. I actually sat carving this in front of the TV whilst watching a Christmas film!

img_0758

Then, I drew the design for the top, cut it out and got all of the pumpkin seeds out! Then I drew the rest of the design and carefully cut all the pieces out.

img_0765

It turned out better than I expected! It looked very cute by the fireplace with the cob webs and spiders! Here’s my finished pumpkin 🙂

My Halloween Cupcakes

Hey! HAPPY HALLOWEEN! I hope you’ve had a spooktacular day 🙂 I’m too old to go trick or treating, however I like to celebrate Halloween. This year I carved a pumpkin, made Halloween cupcakes and had a Halloween makeup look on today. My cupcakes turned out really well and tasted amazing!

I used Tanya Burr’s ‘Halloween Cupcakes’ recipe and added my own decoration onto the cakes. I purchased the cupcake cases and ‘Pumpkin & Bat’ sprinkles from ASDA and bought the cocktail sticks from Tiger!

img_0745

To get the blood effect on the cupcakes, I used red food colouring. I used a teaspoon to dribbled it over the icing. Make sure your icing is set first otherwise it just runs everywhere!

img_0750

I displayed them on a wooden board and offered them out to my friends and family. They were particularly nice with a hot chocolate and sat with a blanket 🙂

There’s my HALLOWEEN cupcakes!

World Mental Health Day 2016

Hey! I’m so sorry for the lack of posts lately, I’m trying desperately to get back on track. Today is the 10th of October and that means it is World Mental Health Day. This subject is very important and it is close to my heart, so today’s post is all about raising awareness and stopping the stigma ❤

If you have followed my blog for a while, you will know that I uploaded a post called Mental Health & Me. I did this to share my story and to explain that I suffer from depression and anxiety. The feedback and comments I got from that post was brilliant, thank you all so much.

I also wanted to raise awareness about mental health and I think today is a fantastic opportunity for millions of people to help stop the stigma. Having a mental illness doesn’t define who you are, just like having a physical illness wouldn’t. However, people understand that more because they can physically see something is wrong. When researching about mental health, I came across a statistic which states that ‘if we don’t act quickly, depression will be the leading illness globally by 2030’. That shocked me massively and goes to show how important talking about mental health and improving the treatment is.

Anxiety and depression disorder is the most common mental health problem in the UK and people who suffer with any mental illness somehow feel like it’s their own fault. They feel ashamed, embarassed, lonely, they feel like that have to hide it and battle it on their own. It’s time to talk and it’s time to change. If you suffer with a mental health problem here are some things to help you:

  • Talk about your feelings
  • Get help – websites, helplines, your GP, talking to someone you trust
  • Exercise and eat well
  • Make time for yourself
  • Use relaxation techniques
  • Realise your emotional health is important
  • Be strong – You ARE worthy and brave.

Mental Health affects 1 in 4 of us. Someone you know is suffering with a mental illness right now. ‘Just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean its not there’ Be supportive. Talk about it. Normalise it. Let’s end the stigma. We can make a change ❤

I love you all. Please use this hashtag today and raise awareness EVERY day – #WorldMentalHealthDay2016

My Vanilla Fudge!

Hey! For today’s post I’ve got my recipe for Vanilla Fudge! I looked at a few different recipes and thought I’d just use my own measurements and add vanilla essence to create the best fudge! So here are the ingredients and the method if you want to try it out!

Ingredients:

  • 115g butter
  • 100ml milk
  • 450g demerera or soft brown sugar
  • 397g can of Carnation condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence

thumb_IMG_0466_1024

Equipment:

  • Saucepan
  • Wooden spoon
  • Square tin
  • Baking paper
  • Scales
  • Measuring jug

Method:

  • Place all of the ingredients into the saucepan and melt over a low heat. Stir until all the sugar dissolves.
  • Bring to the boil and simmer for 10-15 minutes. You MUST stir continuously and scrape the pan otherwise it will stick!
  • Take care while the mixture boils and during stirring as the fudge will be VERY hot! To see if it’s ready, drop a little of the mixture into a jug of ice-cold water. A soft ball of fudge should form.

thumb_IMG_0469_1024

  • Remove the fudge from the heat and stir until its very thick and starting to set. This can take like 15 minutes!
  • Pour into the square tin and pat in evenly.
  • Leave to set in the fridge and then cut into squares!

And there we go that’s my Vanilla Fudge! 🙂

Let me know if you try it out!
